This so called "from scratch, new app" has many of the bugs that previous versions did, but that they had already fixed! For instance, it randomly stops your music when it plays a sound. This was a bug in one a few versions ago. They fixed it, and now its back. Also, it plays a sound like you got a message. Yet, shows nothing in your message threads until you shut it down and restart it. Again, a bug from a previous version that they had "fixed". They apparently had so many bad reviews with previous versions saying that it was popping up communication error messages, that they just decided to remove that notification altogether. It now no longer tells you when the communications with the severs fail. It just acts like it loaded correctly and you never know it until your message to someone doesnt go thru. When you go into a chat with somebody, you have to wait a few seconds for it to load. Even their pic doesnt load half way decently. In the old app, if you were conversing with somebody, it used to show a blue box around their profile in the grid. Now it only hi-lights their profile in yellow if you have an unread message from them. It randomly takes you to the App Store like you tapped an ad. Again, a previous version bug. Although they never have fixed that one. I have a feeling that has something to do with their advertising profit margins. It also now apparently has grindr sponsored malware to. A few weeks ago, when I started the app, it popped up a grindr system message saying: "Your Apple iPhone is heavily damaged by ef3ex42dr flaw now. Download free Antivirus protector to fix it." This was a message from the grindr app itself. Not a webpage or user - UNACCEPTABLE! The bots on this thing are the same old thing; HORRIBLE! They message you, you report them, (or use up all of your "blocks" for the day blocking them), and grindr does nothing at all about it. They said that they wrote this new app from scratch and didnt use the old apps code but there is NO WAY. Theyve used libraries from the old versions most likely and thats probably why old bugs have transferred over. Also, this stupid thing doesnt have even HALF of the features that any other gay networking app has. No multiple pics, you have to PAY for push notifications (they are the ONLY app that charge you for this), you cant put personal notes on a persons profile, you cant manage your blocks - if you want to unblock one person, you have to unblock everybody. To top it all off, you cant use it on any public networks. For instance, when Im at the gym or a coffee shop, it tells me that Im on an unsecured network and wont even bring up the grid. It wont give me the option to bypass and tell it that I dont freeking care. The only option is to use my cellular data; which it EATS ALIVE! Im currently at 900MB for 18 days of just grindr data! Unbelievable! Try using SCRUFF instead. Its a lot better. Maybe once all of Grindrs customer base starts transferring over, theyll start listening to their users. Of course, by then, itll be too late.

Didnt think an app could devolve this much, but it did. Its a NEW version, not an update. Still havent got the messages problem worked out, and theyd love to use up your data for advertisements. Run, dont walk to other options out there. Gonna uninstall and check back in a few months.

If you were a fly on the wall at Grindr recently you might be thinking "I heard Grandpa tell the same stories." Yes, Grindr is following in Facebooks falling backwards foot steps ie) Rocket to the top, get bored so start removing features people like (pages that actually load, pictures not so big every pore shows, ability to erase a chat or save phrases) and rollout a "new" look/update with less features and user friendly tools. But not to worry, the competition has twice as many rockets and like Facebook, Grindr and the computer illiterate bean counters running it (no idea who they are but they sure couldnt tell you what "IT" stands for) will be full time Uber drivers before they can rollout dial up chat rooms (max: 23 ppl).

You dont need this app in your life. The "improved" version is almost identical to the way the app once was, except charges you for features that had always been free. This company is so, so desperate for you money. Save yourself the trouble and dont download it. Grindr is lucky theyre even getting a star. They should pay their users to use their app. Grindr has become the new MySpace.

I read the reviews and wasnt going to update but I did it anyway. It seems to work for me. I was mentally ready to just delete it permanently but so far, day one of the update works fine.

Pls kick the cis men out of the trans tribe! They think it helps then find trans genders. Its such a turn off.

The constant App Store redirects and 99% of spam bots are gone, so that alone is a huge improvement. Unfortunately delayed messages (force quit and relaunch to get messages is a workaround), and forcing to pay for push notifications which is in violation of Apples Dev agreement: Section 3.2.2 Unacceptable; item 2: "Monetizing built-in capabilities provided by the hardware or operating system, such as Push Notifications, the camera, or the gyroscope; or Apple services, such as Apple Music access or iCloud storage.") Grindr has more work to do, but they are getting there...very, very, very slowly. The competition isnt much better, so why Grindr cant capitalize on that is beyond comprehension.

Where to begin...the old app was bad enough, but somehow the new version is even worse than the old. Ive had profile pictures be rejected for "violating the terms" whenever it wasnt at all. Meanwhile, I see hot guys with abs showing way more than I was in my rejected picture, but of course they get a pass. Typical gay behavior, the hot ones get away with anything. I cant tell you how many times Ive had an "error, unable to load more guys" message pop up. Its constant. Every day. Multiple times. Then lately Im having to log in again to "verify my credentials" after the app crashes, which is a multiple time a day thing. I wont get a message for hours, then suddenly get a whole bunch at once with time stamps from hours before. This app is terribly unreliable. Unfortunately, Ive tried all the other ones and, aside from scruff, no app comes even close to having the number of guys that Grindr has. I dont understand why. Five years of consistent crashing, non-loading and horrible customer service, I dont understand how this app still has more guys than any other. Of course the problem is the people at scruff know theyre the most popular, so they dont care to try to fix anything.

Sorry, Im not full of hate in general but this is just garbage now. Grindr, you have really done it with the update this time. There are alternatives you know, and more and more people are switching. Its just not worth it to stick with you anymore. You were there from the beginning, times are changing, time to say goodbye. Goodbye Grindr!

Every time I load this, it forces the App Store open. Every. Time. Really crappy app, and plenty of better options on the market.

Such a piece of trash, the old apps is already bad but the new apps is even worse... Not worth the money and be on the apps..

Im deleting this app is the worst update ever

I can see where they were going with this but it was a total flop...forcing users but losing all their previous messages and pics is pretty much the worst thing you could have done with a update and you pulled it off it the worst of spatular fashion...been a used since the beginning but everyone else is bailing soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gotta go where the meat is.......

To make things worse, they disabled the old free version I was purposely using! What a waste of money. No more renewals for me! Bots everywhere still. May have been the first of its kind, but now its the worst. Still buggy and wont connect or refresh.

I have an iphone 4, not even a 4s. the force update wont work for me because I cannot upgrade to anywhere near ios 8. Please fix this.

My big question is which experience do you have; are you a paid member or are you a free member? I will say Ive been reading a lot of these reviews and I just really want to put my two cents in from the standpoint of a person who was a free user and got a free sample to a paid account. The two experiences are so very different. Let me start with what I like about the new grinder and what I miss about the old grinder for free accounts. What I miss about the old account was regarding photos profile text, and message. For text profile, I miss that we had more room for text profile on the old Grindered. The new one doesnt have as any characters. I also miss how easy it was to edit the storage photos, a feature we didnt have in the beginning. The new one took a sec for me find how to edit the photos being sent from the message box. Lastly as all apps, Grindered does take up some memory; with that said I miss being able to edit off certain messages and navigate straight to the target message or photos. But thats just me. Now on to what I like about the new grinder. I like that when it comes to editing your own profile everything is on one page. I like that the new grinder has fewer places to navigate to to edit and there are more integrations into your own personal photo profile tile in the feed. Editing your profile off from one spot and going straight back into Messages and cruising then is actually really awesome if you think about it. I do like the way photos are stored for easy sending during a chat. I do like that there are multiple places to block a user if you need to use the block. I like that while you have clicked on a members profile and you were chatting, you can navigate to the persons profile through the thumb nail photo at the top of the screen once you are in their profile. It is help me to reference their profile on making conversation. I wish people would stop complaining about the ads because, youre on a free app, and they have to be a lot of people to keep this los globally popular gay hook up and gay dating app active. Now as a paid member. Stop at the ads. Maybe one or two, rotate them by login, set algorithms interest based on Google searches and the email we submit, perhaps give us a tab on which ones are relevant. As a paid member, having six times the load is great. Being able to filter real heavily to my type has been great for me to get straight to what is important for me during the moments that I am loaded onto grinder. Understand that many of you that are on here are not exclusive relationships so therefore until you are youre going to be a consumer, those ads are a good indicator or how big the company gets to grow. If you dont like the way it runs, get off the app and make events to gather men. We could use more of those in the gay community as it is. So to review: Improvements are: user integration while in chat with another member. Crazy good filters and loads for Paid members (even though I think 6 times the few on a regular account is a "shock" perk for the tight case feed and limited blocks on a few account. The photo sending is great. Pre-populated info is good with position. Requested improvements: Please let us be able to delete selected messages within a chat again, please. Sometimes we just want to delete a photo to free up the digital mass and a chat. There are more parallels to the scruff model for their paid accounts, I get it. But the one thing that made grindr better was chat edits. Now scruff has that. Thank you
